Relaxation is a sparkle of youth

Its mission is to respond to the medical needs of children and youth with disability. The team joins specialized nurses and a group of 40 volunteering doctors of different specializations: Neurology and neuropediatrics, genetics, psychiatry, pneumology, cardiology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, endocrinology, dietetics, etc.

To ensure that paraclinical assessment and tests (like MRI, radiological examinations and blood tests) are provided, the Medical unit is in close collaboration with hospital, medical and paramedical centres.

The Medical unit provides analyses, organization, and nursing care. It ensures diagnoses for beneficiaries and manages their health-care plans. That includes:

Organizing consultations: Nurses organize different consultations at SESOBEL or in physicians’ own offices. They also accompany children and their families during hospitalization or paraclinical examinations. They ensure contact between physicians and families and make sure the health-care plan is well conducted exactly as planned.

Conducting specialized preventive, curative or palliative care and/or complementary programs for children and young people at SESOBEL and/or at home: The aim is to help them maintain acceptable life quality, to relieve their pain and to monitor any complications or deterioration of their health.

Informing families: To make families take part in making health-care plans for their children, the Medical-unit team accurately informs them of their children’s health conditions. The team also makes sure that they approve of the nature, conduct, function and usefulness of the medical actions taken and that families are abiding by the actions.

Collective health at SESOBEL: The Medical unit devises a strategy for health standby, guaranteeing a healthy and supportive environment for children and young people who attend the centre daily. (Measures in favour of hygiene and against communicable diseases, etc.)

Health education: It includes training and informing professionals, parents, and children regarding essential care, hygiene, nutrition education, etc.
